FYP PROGRESS - WEEK 13 & WEEK 14

Title: Submission of the Project Proposal

Basically nothing much in both week. The Project Proposal was submitted to Madam Azliza. After the submission, I continued on how to develop my system. From all the research I’ve made, I was trying to create the system. This log book will be continued on the next semester and it will be about my developing of the system.

Conclusion :
As a conclusion, I am grateful to Allah S.W.T for the strength to complete my 1st FYP. And also thanks to Madam Azliza Bte Mohamad Arshad, which helped me a lot and guiding me to complete the whole task of the FYP1. I really hope this will improve my study and also my knowledge about this project and also improve my current CGPA for this semester. Special THANKS to Madam Azliza for helping me throughout the process.

FYP PROGRESS - WEEK 8

What is a GSM technology?

The term GSM stands for “Global System for Mobile communications” and it is a digital cellular technology used to transmit mobile voice as well as data services. It supports voice calls and the speed of the data transfer ranges up to 9.6 kbps, together with the broadcast of Short Message Service (SMS). The operating frequency of GSM ranges from 900MHz to 1.8GHz bands in Europe country and in the USA, it would be 1.9GHz and 850MHz bands. In many Lain American countries and in Australia these services are also transmitted through the 850MHz spectrum. FYP PROGRESS - WEEK 5

Automatic meter reading

Automatic meter reading, or AMR, is the technology of automatically collecting consumption, diagnostic, and status data from water meter or energy metering devices (gas, electric) and transferring that data to a central database for billing, troubleshooting, and analyzing. This technology mainly saves utility providers the expense of periodic trips to each physical location to read a meter. Another advantage is that billing can be based on near real-time consumption rather than on estimates based on past or predicted consumption. This timely information coupled with analysis can help both utility providers and customers better control the use and production of electric energy, gas usage, or water consumption.
AMR technologies include handheld, mobile and network technologies based on telephony platforms (wired and wireless), radio frequency (RF), or powerline transmission.

The benefits of smart metering for the utility.
  • Accurate meter reading, no more estimates
  • Improved billing
  • Accurate profile classes and measurement classes, true costs applied
  • Improved security and tamper detection for equipment
  • Energy management through profile data graphs
  • Less financial burden correcting mistakes
  • Less accrued expenditure
  • Transparency of “cost to read” metering
  • Improved procurement power though more accurate data - “de-risking” price
  • In cases of shortages, utility will be able to manage/allocate supply.

The benefits of smart metering for the customer.
  • Improved billing and tacking of usage.

FYP PROGRESS - WEEK 4

Title: Research and findings

In this week, Madam Azliza registered my name and the title of the project under her supervision on the FYP website. I should be able to check the application status online once the supervisor approved my application. I have now officially under the supervision of Madam Azliza for my FYP. As my supervisor, Madam Azliza will guide me in the project; recommend approaches, techniques and methods appropriate to achieve the project’s objectives.

A successful project needs to have the right steps and approaches for it to be success. I have came out with a flowchart showing the process and steps that I have to take.

FYP PROGRESS - WEEK 3

WEEK 3

Assalamualaikum.

This post is for progresses made on the third week of completing this project. In this post is about comparison between arduino and microcontroller.

ARDUINO

Arduino is an open-source electronics platform based on easy-to-use hardware and software. Arduino boards are able to read inputs - light on a sensor, a finger on a button, or a Twitter message - and turn it into an output - activating a motor, turning on an LED, publishing something online. You can tell your board what to do by sending a set of instructions to the microcontroller on the board. To do so you use the Arduino programming language (based on Wiring), and the Arduino Software (IDE), based on Processing.

MICROCONTROLLER

A Microcontroller is a IC chip that executes programs for controlling other devices or machines. It is a micro (small size as its a Integrated Circuit chip) device which is used for control of other devices and machines thats why it is called 'Microcontroller'. It is a Microprocessor having RAM,ROM and I/O ports.

ARDUINO
MICROCONTROLLER
Inexpensive - Arduino boards are relatively inexpensive compared to other microcontroller   platforms.
Flexibility - Microcontrollers are special types of processor chips that are very small and somewhat flexible, due to their programmable nature.
Cross-platform - The Arduino Software (IDE) runs on Windows, Macintosh OSX, and Linux operating systems. Most microcontroller systems are limited to Windows.
Faster Speed of Execution - since are fully integrated inside the processor, i.e. a “computer on a chip” these devices operate at faster speeds to execute instructions compared to general purpose microprocessors.
Simple, clear programming environment - The Arduino Software (IDE) is easy-to-use for beginners, yet flexible enough for advanced users to takes advantage of as well.
Rigid Once - microcontroller are programmed, typically they cannot be reprogrammed, if microcontrollers are controlled by Read-Only Memory(ROM) only rather than Random Access Memory (RAM)

Thank you

FYP PROGRESS - WEEK 2

Submitting the FYP Title

In this week, I have chosen my supervisor Madam Azliza Bte Mohamad Arshad as a supervisor for my FYP project. It is because, she is the best for my FYP project supervision. After discussion and deliberation, my supervisor has agreed with the title "Electricity Automatics Billing System". I agree with this topic because this topic is very appropriate with electronics engineering student like me. I hope this subject can increase my knowledge and useful for my future after graduation and employment.
